Audio for Co-Regulation when your calm is the thing they borrow.

Your child cannot bring themselves down yet. They come down by borrowing your steadiness, which is a lovely idea until it is 5pm and you have none left to lend.

Why sound helps here

Children regulate by borrowing an adult's regulated state long before they can produce their own, which means the adult's nervous system is the actual tool. Doing the session together, rather than handing it over, means both bodies are being paced at once and you are not asked to generate calm out of nothing.

The hard parts

How to use Resyna in this moment

  1. Do the session together rather than assigning it to your child.
  2. Sit beside them, at their level, without requiring eye contact.
  3. Let your own breath slow first, visibly.
  4. Say very little, since presence does more here than language.
  5. Take your own session later, on your own, to refill.

Questions

What is co-regulation?

It is the process of a child settling by being near a settled adult, and it is how self-regulation is eventually learned. Every regulated moment together is a deposit toward independent skill.

What if I am not calm either?

Then start there, honestly. Doing the session for yourself first is not selfish, it is the only version that works, because you cannot lend what you do not have.

Does my child have to participate?

No. Being near you while you do it still works, and requiring participation turns a support into a demand.
